A rather one off gallery which I have been putting together over the course of the year to get several shots.

Clacton station was opened in 1882 as a single line from the branch to Walton from Colchester which opened 15 years earlier.

The line thrived in the Summer months between 1938 & 1983 when Butlins had a holiday camp by the coast, as a result the line was doubled by 1941.

Electrification took place between Colchester & Great Bentley initially with electric services commencing in 1959 becoming the first line in the Country to use 25 kV AC overhead wires. It was eventually extended to Clacton with through electric trains from London beginning from 1962 which was also the year of the end of East Anglian steam.

Today the line is run by Abellio Great Anglia with the usual services comprising of one train an hour to London during off peak times.
